What A Year!!! Before I even started writing this, I reviewed A Year In Review #2017BestNine, read my blog archives, scrolled through my Instagram posts, looked at old emails, and reflected on God's goodness, mercy, and favor. This really has been a productive, fun-filled year full of life lessons, prayers coming to fruition, and a divine journey of self-discovery. After launching my website on September 1, 2017 and being intentional about the goals I set on New Year's Day 2018, I really wanted to LIVE MY BEST LIFE, and 2018 DID NOT disappoint! I've spent the greater part of the last 10 years in hustle and survive mode, whether it was making the decision to leave my hometown of Little Rock and move to New York City (and stay regardless of what situation I was facing), forging a career in sports and entertainment, and most recently, the finance industry, and just trying to maintain and have a stable work/life balance. It hasn't been easy, but it's definitely been worth it! So when this year started, my main focus was to enjoy life and the fruits of my arduous labor. It's no coincidence that Lil Duval dropped "Smile Bitch" in July of this year proclaiming for everyone to live their best life, and I already intended to do just that! As you may already know, I've worked in event planning since I was in college up until 2017. This past year I've worked in event planning but more so in web development and design for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. This opportunity gave me the flexibility to do more of what I love... attend events and enjoy them as a fan rather than work them and miss out on all of the excitement and entertainment! Here is a list of the events I was fortunate enough to attend including a few special appearances, celebrity sightings, and some random encounters! For the events not linked, images and video can be found on my Facebook and Instagram pages.
Needless to say, it's been a busy year! Not only did I want to attend events and have the best time of my life, 2018 also marked a year of self-discovery when I found out my maternal and paternal ancestral roots through African Ancestry. I celebrated the end of my Jesus Year with a trip to Jamaica and a site-seeing tour to Nine Mile, the birthplace of reggae legend Bob Marley. I also celebrated the one year anniversary of my website going live, and I finally started my African Art collection! 2018 was definitely a transformational year for me. It's been so inspiring and uplifting, and in some ways made me reevaluate my life, the people and things that are important to me, and the legacy I want to leave behind. I've seen a friend get married, and I've been to a high school classmate's funeral. I've fostered new relationships, and I ended a toxic 20 year old friendship. I've connected with family members I didn't know I had through social media, and unfortunately, I'm estranged from others. Throughout it all, I've matured greatly as I grow in my Queendom! I've learned to set boundaries to protect my peace, I've allowed myself to live a little... actually a lot, and most importantly, I've surrendered all to God as He continues to order my steps along this beautiful journey we call life! I'm so grateful for all the amazing things I've been able to experience, my family and friends who feel more like family, and the dope people I've crossed paths with. I still can't believe I met Doug E. Fresh, my cousin Ronnie Laws, Michael Eric Dyson, Peter Gunz, Franchesca Ramsey, Marlon Wayans, Larenz Tate, and the mother of THE GREATEST hip hop icon, Gloria Carter! This year doesn't owe me a THANG, you hear me?! I typically don't set New Year's resolutions, but I do want to be more mindful of my health and go completely vegan instead of just being vegan-ish 97% of the time, and work out more consistently. I definitely want to travel more, both domestically and internationally, and write about my experiences. I also want to do more community service projects. Lord willing, I'll be able to look back on this post a year from now and say... THINGS SHE DID: ALL OF THAT! #fingerscrossedandprayersup Thank you all for rocking with me these past 15 months as I've dived into the world of blogging! I really appreciate your comments, likes, and emails! It's truly been an adventure, and I can't wait to see what God has in store for 2019! Be safe out there peeps, and I wish everyone an exciting, extraordinary, and evolutionary Happy New Year! Love ya!
