Words can't describe how excited I was when the news reported that #FOREVERPOTUS AND #FOREVERFLOTUS inked a presidential record breaking book deal topping $60 million in the spring of 2017. I was even more amped when Michelle released a short video earlier this year discussing the title of her forthcoming book, BECOMING, and nationwide book tour dates produced by Live Nation. Due to overwhelming demand, they added a second date to Barclays Center, and Sarah Jessica Parker was slated to moderate. WHATTTT?!
I'm swooning, and all of a sudden my worlds collide... Thy Royal Black Presidential Excellency from the South Side of Chicago FOREVER FLOTUS meets Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and The City fame. I LIVEEEEE!!!
I still remember reading the May 2015 issue of Glamour magazine on a flight back to NYC after visiting my hometown for my line sister's wedding, and seeing Sarah, Michelle, and theee Olivia Pope herself, Kerry Washington on the cover! Which reminds me, I still need to book tickets for American Son before January 27th. I digress... oh yes, I have to attend this! So I quickly signed up for Ticketmaster Verified Fan in hopes that the Ticket Gods would see fit for me to receive an access code and be invited to the presale to secure my ticket!
Then it happened... on September 20th, I logged in to Ticketmaster with my access code and BAMMM!!! I got my floor seat ticket that also included an autographed copy of her memoir, the best selling book of 2018 with over 3.5 million copies sold to date! The Daily Double! Can you say, "What is #BlackGirlMagic for $2000, Alex?"
Her book is absolutely phenomenal! Her extraordinary journey from the South Side of Chicago to the world's most famous address is truly inspiring, and I'm still in complete awe from last night...
Did I forget to mention that I got a picture with the the mother and mother-in-law of The GOAT and The BEE? Yeah, THAT happened... WOW!!!

Meeting the mother of THE GOAT... Gloria Carter
Jennifer D. Laws and Gloria Carter inside Barclays Center - she is sooo sweet!!!
BACKSTORY: There I am minding my business trying to slowly walk with the crowd to exit Barclays Center after the show when I spot THE mother of THE GOAT and the mother-in-law of THE BEE, GLORIA CARTER! I spotted her and said, "Ms. Carter?," as if I were questioning my own keenly perceptive eyes and her glorious existence before me. She said, "Yes, I am." Then I said with confirmed glee in a slightly louder tone, "The mother of JAY-Z!" She said yes and then quickly hushed me up! "Ssshhh before everyone notices me," she says with the warmest smile!
She was literally posted up against the wall with a small group of people near the ladies restroom going seemingly undetected. Maybe she thought no one would recognize her but I definitely did, and she didn't want me blowing up her spot! We chatted for a bit, and I told her how proud I am of her beautiful family and how cool it is to meet the matriarch of a Hip Hop icon. She smiled, said thank you, and obliged my request for a quick selfie. She is the ABSOLUTE sweetest person ever, and I'm so glad God allowed me to cross her path!
What an INCREDIBLE night...
