In June, I purchased a Ghana mask that I named Mother Umi. She is a Kasai River Goddess of the Pende people. I was on a mission to start collecting authentic African art after being inspired by the museum heist scene in Black Panther.

Not only am I celebrating Gabon’s Independence Day today, I’m also celebrating the life of Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr., Universal African Flag Day, and the one year anniversary of purchasing my blog domain. Evolution
On August 13, 2017, I was living off my dwindling savings account and my unemployment benefits were about to end in six weeks when I said hello to my Jesus Year. I was stable, but didn’t have much disposable income for extras. This is New York after all... Hello World! I know I haven't been writing on my blog lately... it was for a reason. Sometimes, you have to take a step back (from everything AND everyone) to see ahead! I've spent the last two months on an in-depth journey of self-discovery since I received my matriclan (maternal) African Ancestry DNA results documented in my last post, "Finding My Roots".
