The Music Box Theatre | September 20, 2024

I remember hearing about protestors disrupting a performance in early July by unfurling a banner that said "Suffs Is A Whitewash." I also heard mixed reviews. It made me want to watch it even more, and I actually liked it. It did discuss racism - the exclusion and internal struggles Black women faced in the movement. It didn't just gloss over it. Their acknowledgement didn't feel like a paragraph you read in a high school textbook about slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. I thought it was as nuanced as it could be given its a 2.5 hour Broadway show with a 15 minute intermission.
