I got to see the second preview of Marjorie Prime Friday night! The show started previews on November 20th.
First, June Squibb is 96 years young. NINETY-SIX commanding the stage. Whew! Second, I came to see two-time Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon, who will always be Miranda Hobbes from Sex and The City to me!
The humanistic play is about an 85-year-old woman named Marjorie suffering from dementia. She uses a tech service that provides an AI "Prime" - a younger version of her late husband, Walter, to help her remember her life. The thought-provoking storytelling feels like an episode of Black Mirror as it makes the audience face the realities of aging, lived experiences and a life remembered, selective memory loss, grief, and AI innovation vs. human connection.
