Gruesome Playground Injuries

First time at the historic Lucille Lortel Theatre!
Kara Young (Purpose, Purlie Victorious) and Nicholas Braun (Succession) star in Gruesome Playground Injuries. The play spans the 30 year friendship of Kayleen and Doug who trauma bond over physical and mental health issues and numerous scars from being accident prone.
Their vulnerable dynamic and unrequited love was interesting to watch, though the play was mid at best. It gave college theater. To be frank, Kara was doing the heavy lifting.
The weirdest part was hearing theatergoers discuss Braun’s recent DUI charges that he caught in New Hampshire before the play even started. Someone called the play “recession theater” and said they were only there because they couldn’t get tickets to Tom Hanks’ new Off-Broadway play This World of Tomorrow.
Ouch. Gotta love NYC!
