Remember this scene from S6E12 of Sex and the City? Well Burnout Paradise is like the complete opposite of that!

Burnout Paradise is by far THE MOST chaotic, insane, semi-dangerous, audience participation show I’ve ever been to. Bruh, I’m still like wtf did I just witness?! This is my first time at Astor Place Theatre. I won a first row lottery ticket through Lucky Seat to attend. Literally just going off Sunday vibes. I didn’t look up the show beforehand, so I didn’t know what to expect. And I’m glad I didn’t!
Four people are running on treadmills completing tasks - cooking a three course meal for two people (survival), writing a grant proposal (admin), performing an artistic piece (performance), and completing a very random to do list (leisure). They run for 12 minutes four times, and then they switch positions each time.
The MC is monitoring their time and handing out blue Gatorade to people in the audience that raise their hand and request it. One of the guys who was cooking had to make a cucumber and tomato salad, and he was crushing them by hand. Dude had tomato juice flying everywhere! I think he got some in my hair. The person doing the grant proposal had the audience take pictures of the cast and send them to a Gmail account so they could add it to the application. The pictures were hilarious!
Their goal is to complete all tasks and run more miles than the previous show. They ran more miles 18.4 (18.1 was the previous show), but they didn’t send off the grant proposal before the clock ran out. So the MC said because they failed, I will refund everyone in the audience their ticket price if you want, and it comes out of our production budget. Nah sis, you keep that! They EARNED that money!
